Plugin "SEO Meta Robots" helps block the indexing of pages in your online store that should not be indexed by search engines and whose blocking via the "robots.txt" file is problematic. Plugin supports the following page types:
There are a total of 3 ways to prevent a page from being indexed (excluding HTTP headers):
All these methods are supported by Yandex and Google search engines, but the last one, the "Canonical Link," is only a recommendation for search engines and can be ignored by them.
- via the "robots.txt" file.
- via the "robots" meta tag.
- via the "canonical link".
On July 4, 2019, Yandex officially announced that the search engine ignores the "Canonical Link" and continues to index pages. This has been confirmed in practice. Google may also ignore this tag and index non-canonical pages of the site. Therefore, it is necessary to use methods other than the "Canonical Link" to prevent page indexing on the site.
Nevertheless, the "Canonical Link" tag should be used because it transfers weight from unnecessary pages of the site to those that are needed. I recommend using plugins "SEO Meta Robots" in conjunction with the SEO Canonical Link plugin.
Plugin "SEO Meta Robots" does not allow indexing of pages using the "robots" meta tag. Unlike the "Canonical Link," the "robots" meta tag is strict, and search engines always take it into account and strictly adhere to it.
Even an inexperienced user can handle the configuration and verification of plugins: no developer assistance is required.
Plugin works via hooks: no integration with the design theme is required. However, in extreme cases, it is possible to display plugins using helpers.
Plugin works on the "installed - configured - forgotten" principle: meta tags are injected automatically.
The plugin hides settings that can most often only harm SEO promotion: you can activate custom settings only by editing the configuration file.
The plugin allows you to configure separate meta tags for Yandex and Google for each page type (for example, close hidden products from indexing in Yandex while leaving them available for indexing in Google).
It is like multisite support, only much more functional. You can dynamically override plugins settings for each individual store website, user category, user device type, URL page, etc. (how does it work?)
In the current version, plugin only partially supports UI 2.0 - plugins settings do not support the dark backend version.
