SEO Link Canonical - plugin for Shopy-Script applications
Plugin "SEO Link Canonical" helps identify unnecessary site pages and specify which ones search engines should consider canonical, thereby passing their weight to them. Currently plugin supports settings for the following types of pages:
- Hidden product pages (product pages with status "Hidden from website")
- Hidden category pages (category pages with status "Hidden from website")
- Pagination pages (pages with GET parameter "page")
- Product article pages (pages with GET parameter "sku")
- Junk pages (pages with any GET parameter except "page" and "sku") ; (pages with multiple GET parameters) ; (pages ending with "?" in URL) ; (product review pages without any reviews)
- Product review pages (product review pages with at least 1 review)
- Other pages (all other website pages)
There are actually 3 ways to prevent page indexing (not counting HTTP headers):
All these methods are supported by Google and other search engines, but the latter one, "Link Canonical", is only a recommendation for search engines and may be ignored.
- via "robots.txt" file
- via "robots" meta tag
- via "link canonical"
However, "Link Canonical" can transfer weight from one page to another when the first one is blocked from indexing. Therefore plugin, whose purpose is to insert the "Link Canonical" tag on a page, is meaningful when used together with another plugin responsible for blocking pages from indexing (for example, this plugin works well in combination with the SEO Meta Robots plugin, which implements a strict "robots" meta tag).

"SEO Link Canonical" disables tag output via engine and theme means (and does so without modifying the theme). It properly disables canonical output in HTTP headers (disabled correctly, not just passing an "empty canonical"). The problem and its solution are described in detail on the blog.
Correct tagging on all pages with GET parameters
"SEO Link Canonical" correctly identifies pages such as "site.com/?_=123" and "site.com/?" as junk pages and correctly links them to canonical pages.

Plugin works via hooks: integration with the design theme is not required. But if necessary, plugins output can be done through helpers.

Ability to define main site mirror
Plugin can be configured to point non-main mirrors of pages to the main mirror (e.g. from "http//" to "https://").

In the plugin you can set separate tags for Yandex and Google for each page type (you can show one tag for Yandex bot and another for Google bot).
Although plugin "SEO Link Canonical" cannot guarantee that unnecessary pages won't get indexed, it is still useful in all projects because it can transfer weight from unnecessary pages to proper ones.

- Works with all design themes having the hooks "frontend_category", "frontend_product", "frontend_head". It's possible to output plugins not via hooks but via helpers.
